Whole Masoor Dal

Materials

Whole masoor dal 100 g (½ cup)

Tomatoes - 2 (medium size)

Onions - 1 (medium size)

Green chillies - 1-2

Ginger - one inch long piece

Salt - to taste (a teaspoon)

Ghee - 1-2 tbsp

Asafoetida - 1 pinch

Cumin - ½ tsp

Turmeric powder - ½ teaspoon

1/2 tsp red chilli powder (if you wish)

Garam Masala – 1 tsp

1 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)

Method

Wash and soak dal in the water for 1 hour.

Remove the water from the wash dal and put dal in a cooker, with 1 1/2 cup of water, salt and turmeric powder.

After a whistle in the cooker, cook on low flame for 3-4 minutes or until the dal done. Turn off the fire.

Chopthe tomatoes, green chillies, ginger and onions.

Put ghee in the pan, add asafoetida, cumin, add onions, tomatoes, ginger and green chilies cook till onion turn light brown.

Add coriander powder and red chili powder add boiled dal and cook untill it start boiling. add garam masala and remove from the gas.

Garnish with corinader leaves. Serve hot with rice and chapati.
