Mixed Daal Vada
Ingredients
½ cup chana dal
½ cup moong dal
½ cup urad dal
½ tsp. garam masala (optional)
1 large onion chopped
1 tbls coriander seeds
A pinch of asafoetida
1 to 2 green chilies chopped
2 tbls of each mint and coriander leaves
8-10 curry leaves (chopped)
½ tsp. cumin
1 to 2 red chilies
Salt as needed
Oil for deep frying
Method (How to make mixed daal vada)
Coarsely blend coriander seeds ,red chili and cumin.
Wash and soak all lentils for 4 hours.
Drain water from the lentils, Add lentils to a blender jar and blend to a coarse paste, if required sprinkle little water while blending
To the ground paste, add garam masala powder, green chilies, coriander, curry, mint leaves, onions, coarsely crushed coriander, red chilies and cumin. Mix well.
Heat oil in a deep pan for frying
Pick up small portions, shape them to small balls, and flatten.
Move the vada on to your greased fingers and drop in the hot oil, you can drop 2 to 3 vadas in one batch, depending on the size of the pan.
Flip them around, fry till golden, drain them on a kitchen tissue.
Repeat making vadas and frying till you finish the ground mix
Serve hot with your favourite chutney
